In the middle of an economic downturn, rising terrorist and pirate attacks and an assault on traditional values in the US, this story is perfect medicine. It’s unbelievable and absolutely stunning (in a good way, mind you).
A 17-year-old grocery bagger was ready to wash his hands in the bathroom at the Federal Way supermarket where he works when he saw a brown canvas money bag on the floor.
Moisei Baraniuc was curious. He opened it and saw envelopes filled with money – “a pretty thick stack.”
Thick enough to add up to $10,000.
Stuffed with 50- and hundred-dollar bills, the bag contained the life savings of a Vancouver, Wash., man who accidentally left it in the men’s bathroom at Top Food & Drug on Nov. 13.
This is beyond commendable. In a world where people are quickly becoming concerned with only what affects them and how they can benefit themselves, it is amazing to see this kid do such a good thing and help out a fellow human being. I give him a huge amount of credit for doing what he did.
A lot of people wouldn’t have done the same. This new selfish force sweeping through society that believes that everything should be only about the individual and no one should even pay attention to anything outside the sphere of their little world is frightening; I’ve seen it firsthand. It’s the same sector of society that believes something is wrong only if you get caught, and the same group of people who think that they can simply walk through life doing whatever THEY think is right, regardless of how it affects anyone else.
Mr. Baraniuc: thank you for restoring some of my faith in humanity.
