Republican John McCain says he has not ruled out choosing Pennsylvania’s popular former Gov. Tom Ridge as a running mate despite his support for abortion rights, a hot-button issue that could inflame some voters among the party’s conservative base.
Ok, well, technically it can’t, but this is still pretty bad. McCain is hemorrhaging conservatives from his supporters by the thousands, and then he suggests that picking a pro-choice moderate would rally the base?
Bobby Jindal, current governor of Louisiana and official ‘potential running mate of John McCain’ according to the media, has announced that he will not accept a VP nod from the Shamnesty King.
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said Wednesday he will not run for vice president on the GOP ticket, making him among a growing number of those pulling themselves out of the race.
Smart move by Jindal and a loss for McCain. I think Jindal could eventually make a good VP, because he is a relatively solid conservative and has shown some skill in handling Louisiana’s messes. Now, however, is not the right time. Whether McCain wins or not, the moderate wing of the Republican Party is quickly running out its welcome. Jindal would be committing career suicide to sign on with McCain as a relative unknown. Now, if a conservative like Romney were his VP, it wouldn’t hurt the latter much, because everyone knows his name and knows where he stands.
Jindal cannot afford to let his big public name recognition event be running as the VP to the Republican politician who is most hated by his own party.
McCain, I think, was looking for a lot of things with Jindal. First, Jindal is a young guy (half McCain’s age) who would bring some Obama-esque rockstar atmosphere to the party. Also, let’s face it folks, he is a minority. That’s something you can bet McCain’s camp was simply salivating over, but sorry for them, they are not going to get it.
One huge reason why this pairing would never have been completely viable and why many people would have looked at this with suspicion is the huge gulf (no pun intended) separating the two candidates on illegal immigration.
There is not much agreement there, folks. Jindal needs to spend a few more years cleaning up Louisiana, and then come back when a real conservative is running, hop aboard and make his noise then.
I think Jindal has promise; hopefully we’ll be hearing his name again more in the future.
In a town hall meeting Thursday in Kansas City, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee said that his Democratic opponent had the “most extreme” record in the Senate.
Later, McCain was asked by the Kansas City Star if he thought Obama was an extremist. He replied: “His voting record … is more to the left than the announced socialist in the U.S. Senate, Bernie Sanders of Vermont.” Sanders describes himself as a “democratic socialist” but he ran, and won, as an independent candidate in the 2006 Vermont Senate race with a 33-point margin of victory.
So, if we already know Obama is a socialist…what is the point of McCain mentioning it? Simple: it is designed to make us ignore the fact that McShamnesty has a lifetime ACU rating of only 83, and in 2006, his rating was a paltry 65.
Yes, Obama is a socialist. Yes, that is a bad thing. But this is a known fact. ‘Maverick’ McCain, the false conservative and tree-hugger in sheep’s clothing, is hiding his own insanity beyond Obama’s terrible veil of socialism. It’s a good try by McCain to divert the attention from his clandestine liberal ways, but hopefully not a successful one.
Rank and file Republicans need to wake up and find their voices and let the RNC know that McCain is not what we want the GOP to become, or within a few years, the transformation of America’s political parties will be complete, as the Democrats will be Socialists and the Republicans will be Democrats.
When that day dawns, ladies and gentlemen, God help us all.
Hilarious, as usual. I especially appreciate this one since I despise all three of the candidates in there and they hammered them. Plus, it ends with my favorite Ahhnold quote of all time.
As several gay rights groups criticized Senator John McCain for saying that he opposes gay adoption, the McCain campaign issued a clarification Tuesday saying that he believes the issue should be decided by the states, and that such adoptions should not be subject to a federal ban.
“John McCain could have been clearer in the interview in stating that his position on gay adoption is that it is a state issue, just as he made it clear in the interview that marriage is a state issue,’’ Tucker Bounds, a campaign spokesman, said in a statement.“He was not endorsing any federal legislation.’’
Why am I getting the feeling that McCain doesn’t give a wit about state’s rights and just wants an easy cop out? Oh, that’s right, because of this:
Mr. McCain has been trying to appeal to the Republican Party’s conservative base without turning off independent and moderate voters.
Good luck with that, tool. You should be more worried about turning off the conservative base, because we’re a lot smarter and a lot more powerful. As quickly as we put Bush into office, we can leave you out in the cold.
The way I see it,if The Obamessiah wins, we will be dodging IEDs on the way to work. If McShamnesty wins, we will be dodging illegals. One of those will kill us physically, one will kill us culturally.
Take your pick, but I’m still not voting for McCain.
According to the RealClearPolitics Composite, Obama is up 7.1 on McCain nationally. This is not surprising given McCain’s JuneSwoon from 45 percent down to where he currently sits at around 40 percent. Maybe it has something to do with his open-borders pandering. Just a thought.
A hilarious number out of that list, however, is Newsweek, which absurdly puts Obama up 15 points, whereas every other pollster (except the blind and deaf LA Times) has it much closer. Hmm…I wonder which is more accurate: a magazine that wrote a fake article about the Koran being flushed down a toilet or six other sources. Silly liberals.
And finally, because it is the best set of poll numbers out there right now:
President Bush Approval Rating: 28.3%.
Democrat-led Congress Approval Rating: 18.5%.
So much for the American people embracing the do-nothing Congress like Pelosi said we would. According to Gallup, 18 percent ties the lowest EVER recorded approval rating for Congress. Good going Dems!
McShamnesty joins Hillary and The Obamessiah in their hatred of free enterprise.
“Um, I don’t like obscene profits being made anywhere, and I’d be glad to look not just at the windfall profits tax that’s not what bothers me, but we should look at any incentives that we are giving to people or industries or corporations that are distorting the market.”
So when it comes to capitalism and free enterprise, our choice for president now comes down to bad, worse and “oh God we’re the USSR.”
“spasmodic” but reduced violence in Iraq and Afghanistan
I can agree with that; he’s been the biggest backer of the surge outside of Bush himself, and it certainly has paid dividends.
Osama bin Laden dead or captured
Unlikely; he’ll probably die of old age or a camel-related incident before we find him, because Pakistan won’t let us into their mountains.
government spending curbed by his ready veto pen
I’ll believe it when I see it, but I really hope it’s true. The other half of the equation is to make sure the Dems don’t get a 2/3 majority in November, or we are in real trouble.
The Republican presidential contender also envisions April’s annual angst replaced by a simpler flat tax
Paging Mike Huckabee…paging Mike Huckabee…Huckabee party, your vice-president seat is ready.
illegal immigrants living humanely under a temporary worker program
Ah, there it is. I knew the Mac Attack couldn’t get through a list of policies without throwing his Conquistador-esque shamnesty views out there. Build the wall, idiot.
partisanship stemmed by weekly news conferences and British-style question periods with joint meetings of Congress
News conferences: good. Joint meetings of Congress with Q & A: why not. Partisanship stemmed: bad. There’s a reason we have two parties; we need a place to contain the wackos, not work with them.
Former Republican Rep. Bob Barr announced Monday that he’s running for president as a Libertarian.
His candidacy could be a wild card in the White House race that many believe would hurt Republican Sen. John McCain.
The former Georgia Republican congressman said that having spent several weeks roaming the U.S. and abroad and talking to people from all walks of life, he has heard the same complaints.
“They want a choice. They believe America has more to offer than what current political situation is serving to us,” he said.
Barr said “protecting the defense and defending the United States” is a first priority, and that would include not leaving open military bases abroad that serve no advantage. He added that bringing discretionary spending under control, limiting the size and scope of the federal government and reducing the deficit are also among his objectives.
Barr, unlike McCain, is pretty much a hardcore conservative. Meaning that all the angry right-wingers (like me) who can’t stand McCain and his shamnesty policies will be sorely tempted to vote for Barr, even if he has some of his own issues.
What is ironic is that if Obama wins, we are all going to need guns to fight Al Qaeda once he lets them get over here, but before that, he’ll probably sign some ridiculously restrictive gun law that prevents us from keeping our guns and ammunition within 1000 yards of each other.
