Hilarious. So much for him being a “new kind of politician,” right? Now he’s distancing himself from statements HE made. God, this guy is going to fun to shred over the next four years.
WEBSTER CITY, Iowa – The debate about whether Hillary Clinton’s eight years as First Lady qualify as solid foreign policy experience has picked up anew today.
Barack Obama had a cutting remark on the trail: “It’s that experience, that understanding, not just of what world leaders I went and talked to in the ambassadors house I had tea with, but understanding the lives of the people like my grandmother who lives in a tiny hut in Africa,” he said in Iowa.
President-elect Barack Obama introduced Sen. Hillary Clinton, his archrival in the 2008 Democratic presidential race, as his secretary of state on Monday.
“I have known Hillary Clinton as a friend, a colleague, a source of counsel, and as a campaign opponent. She possesses an extraordinary intelligence and toughness, and a remarkable work ethic,” said Obama, speaking at a news conference in Chicago where he has been managing his transition. “Hillary’s appointment is a sign to friend and foe of the seriousness of my commitment to renew American diplomacy and restore our alliances.”
Obama almost choked on “my dear friend, Hillary Clinton,” but he made it through. The team’s remarks were short and understated, with Hillary taking more time than the others.
The questions from the press have been refreshingly skeptical: “Does India have the same right to attack inside Pakistan on actionable intelligence that you endorsed for the U.S. in the primaries?” “Will you actually get all the troops out of Iraq 16 months from now?” “You repeatedly belittled Hillary’s foreign-policy creds during the primaries. Explain why you think she’s qualified now.”
That last question made him rather testy, as he’s not used to being questioned aggressively about past conflicting statements. “I know you in the press like to have fun digging up quotes, things thrown around during the heat of the primary,” he said, as the reporter defended his question. “I know, and you’re having fun, and that’s fine.” He went on to say he’s consistently admired Hillary Clinton.
It’s a well known fact that Candidate Obama mercilessly trashed Hillary’s lack of qualifications during the campaign. That’s why it’s almost, ALMOST, amazing to see Pres-Elect Obama put her exactly in a position that requires the qualifications he claims she didn’t have. Until you look big picture: he’s scared of her. Deathly and utterly frightened of her power. The only way to remove her from the equation was to put her in his cabinet. If he left her in the Senate, she would be the beacon that discontented liberals would rally around, and she would most likely represent the most significant intra-party challenge to The Obamessiah’s reign.
The most notable, of course, is Hillary Clinton herself being mentioned for Sec State, who he spent 18 months relentlessly hammering on for being part of the “problem” and the “establishment.”
How well do you think this sits with his campaign and the voters who put him in there to “change” everything that he’s just bringing Clinton’s freaks out of cold storage? Probably not too well, I would think.
Beyond that, I doubt I am the only one sincerely frightened by Bill Clinton being able to look over Hillary’s shoulder and offer his “thoughts” on foreign policy. And you know he will.
CHICAGO — Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is among the candidates that President-elect Barack Obama is considering for secretary of state, according to two Democratic officials in close contact with the Obama transition team.
A very interesting position to take from the Change Candidate who said that the old ways of Washington were no more and who insulted Hillary nonstop in the primaries for being part of the problem in Washington.
So, does this mean that people are going to figure out that the whole “Change” thing was just a campaign promise to get elected? No, probably not. Quite unfortunate.
Hilarious, as usual. I especially appreciate this one since I despise all three of the candidates in there and they hammered them. Plus, it ends with my favorite Ahhnold quote of all time.
The nation’s free-market doctrine is ill-suited for today’s global market, Sen. Hillary Clinton emphasized in an interview with USA Today.
The New York Democrat told the national daily that if elected president, she will aggressively use federal tax and regulatory policy to promote key sectors of the U.S. economy.
She proposed stripping tax benefits from sectors such as the oil industry and using government policies to boost industries such as automakers, wind turbine producers and steel companies, the paper said.
The key fact is that the Communist countries did fail, and they failed in several different ways:
The overall statistics conceal the fact that some kinds of production were very unsuccessful. For example, agriculture in the Soviet-type countries clearly failed, and failed because of the collective and state farms and nonmarket systems the government imposed on the farmers. Ironically, it is agriculture that has remained least affected by the so-called market reforms of the 1990’s, and agriculture is still dismally unsuccessful in the post-Soviet countries. (The Chinese People’s Republic, more wisely, began its market reforms by turning agriculture over to the farmers, and this smart move gave them the boom they have enjoyed in the generation since.) Similarly, the collapse of human services, such as health and child welfare, in the Soviet republics and Romania is notorious.
They failed as planned economies. As we have seen, the Communist countries never really tried to put an optimal plan into effect. In addition, neoclassical economics tells us that there are some problems that a planned economy could do better with than a market economy. These are problems based on externalities — which includes environmental problems. But the Soviet-Type economies did even worse on these problems than the market economies did.
What amazes me about her “free market bad” and “lots of money bad” speech is that SHE has a ton of money that I’m sure she wouldn’t want to part with. If you like socialism so much, how about you give away all your money to the poor?
What? Oh, you want to keep the money that you earned? What a crazy thought! It’s called capitalism.
We know from the Bible that faith can move mountains. Well, the faith of the mountain state has moved me.
Gag.
She also stumped for seating “all the delegates” from Michigan and Florida…again.
Neither of us have reached the threshold yet.
She is going to go until the last delegate is pledged. Excellent.
What is interesting is that according to the exit polls, Obama got crushed in every group…even the demographics he usually carries by a wide margin. Did they not go out to vote? Did they not care? Is the shine wearing off the Obamessiah? Are the Democrats just flat-out worn out of the bickering? Hopefully, it is all of the above.
This is just getting better and better. Howard Dean should start practicing his wahooo yell, cause he may need it. It’s that bad for the Democratic Party.
Of course, my party didn’t do much better by having the media elect a Shamnesty nut as our nominee.
Clinton challenged Obama, saying, “And they complained about the moderators asking tough questions. So here is my proposal: I’m offering Sen. Obama the chance to debate me one-on-one, no moderators. Just the two of us going for 90 minutes asking and answering questions. We’ll set whatever rules seem fair.
Basically, it would give her a chance to through some very pointed questions that Obama would really have no hope of answering properly. Good move on her part though, because she knew he wasn’t going to accept, and she can use his cowardice as another notch in the belt against him.
Not surprisingly, the media doesn’t have much to say about this incident.
This is hilarious considering that when a crowd member asked John McCain last year “how do we beat the bitch?” (referring to Hillary), the media roundly criticized the Arizona senator for about a week.
Hillary, however, can apparently condone calling the sitting President of the United States a ‘bastard’ without the media laying a finger on her. I will admit, though, that it’s kind of odd that they haven’t, given the Obama lovefest being displayed on every station.
