Gates Calls For Weapons Program Cuts During Time of War

April 6th, 2009 · 1 Comment

Whhhhat???

Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Monday recommended a broad range of budgetary cuts to high-tech weapons programs, including production of the F-22 fighter jet.

In a move that won mixed reviews from lawmakers on Capitol Hill, Gates said his $534 billion budget proposal represents a “fundamental overhaul” in defense acquisition and reflects a shift in priorities from fighting conventional wars to the newer threats U.S. forces face from insurgents in places such as Afghanistan.

Some of the Pentagon’s most expensive programs would also be scaled back. The Army’s $160 billion Future Combat Systems modernization program would lose its armored vehicles. Plans to build a shield to defend against missile attacks by rogue states would also be scaled back.

So let’s see if I can get this right; we just passed multi-trillion dollar budgets FILLED with garbage, we passed a 1.3 trillion dollar porkulus bill FILLED WITH GARBAGE, and to pay for all of that wasteful spending, we’re going to cut our defense spending? Sounds like Bawney Fwank got put in charge of money allocation.

Not like we’re fighting a global war on terror or something. Who needs weapons? Go on out there and get those boys down off the wall. Private, call the President. We’re surrendering our position!

Whoops…forgot. Obama won’t allow “war on terror” to be used, especially since we’re “not at war with Islam.”

North Korea is firing missiles, Iran is threatening global nuclear war and the New Soviet Empire is performing military exercises with Venezuela. Meanwhile, we’re disarming ourselves. Great call, Washington. Glad to see you’re on the ball when it comes to defending the homeland.
