Illegal immigration was completely forgotten this election cycle. After the primaries, you rarely saw Obama or McCain even mention the issue (most likely because they had the same stance on it).
Thankfully, DHS was still moving on it, building the border fence along the Mexican border (which is slated to be completed this month).
Now, open borders advocates are lobbying Obama to halt the construction of the fence.
Open border advocates and some in Congress are urging President Barack Obama to stop construction of the 670-mile fence along the Mexican border (which, by the way, was to have been completed this month).
American citizens, during the congressional debate on immigration in 2007, emphatically informed their congressmen and senators in no uncertain terms that they wanted a fence built along our southern border, and they wanted that fence built without delay.
During the recent presidential elections, the illegal immigration crisis was downplayed by both major party presidential candidates and virtually ignored by the elite media and pundits. Many “Washington political experts” stated that illegal immigration was no longer an issue.
Oh, it is most definitely still an issue. We’ve forgotten it amid socialism bailout schemes, tax increases, declarations of defeat to Al Qaeda and other ridiculous happenings, but it is still an issue.
What’s funny is that the Washington elite and the MSM don’t speak for the people:
But according to a recent Rasmussen Reports national survey, most Americans support the continued construction of a fence along the U.S.-Mexico border and the use of the military if necessary in border areas.
Sixty percent say the government should continue to build the fence, while 26 percent disagree and 13 percent are undecided.
The open border anti-fence activists are emboldened because Arizona’s Gov. Janet Napolitano — recently confirmed as Obama’s choice for secretary of Homeland Security — is perceived to be one of them and may try to halt or further delay construction of the $2 billion border barrier.

U.S.border agents arrested seven Mexican soldiers who strayed across the border in Arizona Friday morning.
The U.S. Border Patrol received reports of a Humvee driving north along the Colorado River near Yuma and U.S. Customs sent a helicopter to investigate, the Arizona Star in Tucson reported. The soldiers told the border patrol they got disoriented and took a wrong turn.
The soldiers were disarmed and taken into custody without incident, the Arizona Star said. They were returned to Mexico via San Luis after a background check.
Sure you did…not like you guys have ever done this before.

From the Washington Times:
A U.S. Border Patrol agent was held at gunpoint Sunday night by members of the Mexican military who had crossed the border into Arizona, but the soldiers returned to Mexico without incident when backup agents responded to assist.
Agents assigned to the Border Patrol station at Ajo, Ariz., said the Mexican soldiers crossed the international border in an isolated area about 100 miles southwest of Tucson and pointed rifles at the agent, who was not identified.
Unfortunately, this situation is not a new situation. The Mexican Army has been defiantly crossing our border for years. Why we let them do it is anyone’s guess. Now on top of the migrants and the smugglers we have military forces belonging to another country violating our sovereignty. How amazing.
It was unclear what the soldiers were doing in the United States, but U.S. law enforcement authorities have long said that current and former Mexican military personnel have been hired to protect drug and migrant smugglers.
“Unfortunately, this sort of behavior by Mexican military personnel has been going on for years,” union Local 2544 of the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC) said on its Web page. “They are never held accountable, and the United States government will undoubtedly brush this off as another case of ‘Oh well, they didn’t know they were in the United States.’
Unclear what they were doing there? Please.
Doesn’t this just scream BORDER FENCE??? It seems to me that this:

would be a lot harder to get over than this:

If the idiots in Washington don’t pull off the blindfolds sometime soon, these sorts of things are going to everyday occurrences not just in MEXICAN border towns, but in towns on our side as well. That’s not something I am prepared to accept.
TIJUANA, Mexico - Massive gunbattles broke out between suspected drug traffickers who fired at each other while speeding down heavily populated streets of this violent border city early Saturday, killing 13 people and wounding nine.
[…]
Tijuana, a sprawling metropolis just across the border from San Diego, California, is pervaded by frequent violence, much of it blamed on drug cartels battling for control of lucrative trafficking routes. The city is home to the Arellano-Felix drug cartel.
