Adult Stem Cells Showing Huge Promise in Clinical Trials

February 28th, 2009 · No Comments

This is a crushing blow for liberals that wanted another excuse to slaughter babies. Using adult stem cells, researchers at Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago have developed an extremely promising treatment for multiple sclerosis (MS).

CHICAGO, February 24, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Edwin McClure, a Virginia Commonwealth University graduate student, and one of the participants in clinical trials involving adult stem cells, says that he is completely cured of the multiple sclerosis symptoms that began to afflict him in high school.

“It’s a blessing,” the young student told Bloomburg News. “My disease has been halted.”

A team of researchers at Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago, including Dr. Richard Burt, the team leader and the hospital’s Division Chief of Immunotherapy, developed the treatment for multiple sclerosis (MS) using stem cells taken from the patient’s own bone marrow. (See: http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2009/feb/09020202.html)

“For the first time ever in the history of treating MS we have reversed disability,” Dr. Burt said of the results of clinical trials using adult stem cells.

“All therapies to date … have focused on slowing the progression of disease,” he said. But with the new treatment, he said, “This is the first time we have turned the tide on this disease.”

Congratulations to Dr. Burt and his team for such an extraordinary breakthrough!

Democrat Senator Byrd Attacks Obama’s Use of ‘Czars’

February 26th, 2009 · 2 Comments

The Obamessiah, early on in his administration, found a way around those pesky Senate confirmation hearings (which can be so annoying when you have a tax cheat like Turbo Tax Tim up there). His solution? “Czars,” appointees that he designated outside of any sort of formal structure. These individuals were supposed to accomplish certain tasks (for example, a “climate czar,” who turned out to be a socialist, among other things) and would answer only to him (and presumably the REAL President of the country, Rahm Emanuel).

The whole thing reeked of totalitarian consolidation of power. Obama doesn’t want to share his throne with anyone. Obviously people on the right have been pretty disturbed by this.

Now we’re joined by people in Obama’s own party.

Robert Byrd, the longest serving senator in history, criticized President Obama’s appointment of numerous White House advisors, also called “czars,” saying the presence of the czars gives the president too much power.

These czars report directly to Mr. Obama and have the power to shape national policy on their subject area. So far, Mr. Obama has recruited czars on health reform, urban affairs policy, and energy and climate change. Unlike Cabinet secretaries, they do not have to be approved by Congress.

In a letter to Obama on Wednesday, Byrd, a Democrat, said that the czar system “can threaten the Constitutional system of checks and balances,” Politico reported. Byrd added that oversight of federal agencies is the responsibility of officials approved by the Senate.

“As presidential assistants and advisers, these White House staffers are not accountable for their actions to the Congress, to cabinet officials, or to virtually anyone but the president,” Byrd wrote. “They rarely testify before congressional committees, and often shield the information and decision-making process behind the assertion of executive privilege. In too many instances, White House staff have been allowed to inhibit openness and transparency, and reduce accountability.”

Now obviously part of this is Byrd seeing his influence waning, but I really don’t care as to WHY he’s mad about it, only that he’s bringing it up. Obama’s czars have been grossly underestimated as a threat to the continued survival of the Constitution and freedom in America.

When even Robert Byrd, the longest serving Senator in Congress who is a staunch liberal, comes after you and you’re in the same party, you know there’s something frightening going on.

Don’t forget Obama is going to be reaching across the isle for some of his appointments as well.
After the last 8 years of incompetance and curruption, you can at least wait before making irrational and cleary partisin remarks.

Before Obama starts reaching between various islands (see: aisle vs isle, moonbat), he should probably hand you a dictionary.

Obama Continues Trend of Stupid Decisions, Puts Biden In Charge of Stimulus

February 23rd, 2009 · 1 Comment

Right now, Sir Porkulus the Bloated is a wild, galloping horse. He’s headed straight over the cliff of depression and into the river of communism. We need someone with a firm hand to grab the reins and attempt to steer this monster in a direction that at least slows the decay of America instead of accelerating it.

Obama thinks he has just the man: perpetual gaffe-machine Joe Biden. Yeah, I can see the intelligence behind this already. Didn’t the Democrats hiss and scream about Cheney having too much authority under the Bush admin? But it’s OK for Biden to handle this, it seems. Typical liberal hypocrisy.

President Obama has turned to his own vice president to oversee implementation of the $787 billion economic stimulus package, part of which will be available this week for state Medicaid programs.

Obama announced his decision before the National Governors Association in Washington on Monday, saying Vice President Joe Biden will help ensure the distribution of the money is not just swift, “but also efficient and effective.”

“The fact that I’m asking my vice president to personally lead this effort shows how important it is for our country and future to get this right,” he said.

Biden, in his new role, would meet regularly with key members of the Cabinet, governors and mayor to make sure their efforts are speedy and effective. He is expected to make regular reports to the president that will be posted online at www.recovery.gov.

Just when you think Obama can’t do anything more ridiculous, that he’s met his weekly quota for stupidity, he goes and tops himself. Biden is an idiot, and a 35 year veteran of the political machine. The Chosen One just put one of the biggest red-tape bureaucrats in Washington in charge of distributing the largest amount of money ever spewed forth by our venomous Federal government in the history of the world.

Good call, Comrade. That’s “change we can believe in” right there.

NSIDC Blames “Sensor Drift” for “Loss” of 193k Miles of Arctic Ice

February 23rd, 2009 · No Comments

One of the biggest hammers the global warming nut jobs have been swinging has been the “retreating Arctic Ice” argument.

It’s real easy to make that fly when the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) “loses” nearly 200,000 square miles of Arctic Ice.

As some of our readers have already noticed, there was a significant problem with the daily sea ice data images on February 16. The problem arose from a malfunction of the satellite sensor we use for our daily sea ice products. Upon further investigation, we discovered that starting around early January, an error known as sensor drift caused a slowly growing underestimation of Arctic sea ice extent. The underestimation reached approximately 500,000 square kilometers (193,000 square miles) by mid-February. Sensor drift, although infrequent, does occasionally occur and it is one of the things that we account for during quality control measures prior to archiving the data. See below for more details.

We have removed the most recent data and are investigating alternative data sources that will provide correct results. It is not clear when we will have data back online, but we are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

Can you say…oops? While the organization is quick to make the point that this only affects recent data, it makes you wonder a little bit how many other instances of “sensor drift” or other tech-sounding errors have affected other global warming studies.

ACORN Activist Arrested Over Foreclosure Civil Disobedience Program

February 23rd, 2009 · No Comments

ACORN, which earned national fame for it’s rampant voter fraud efforts in the 2008 Presidential Election, is a far more dangerous organization than just one that registers people to vote 80 times each.

It’s essentially a front for the radical socialist agenda in America…their website platform is basically a 21st century version of the 10 planks of communism.

Their most recent plan of attack on America? The Foreclosure Civil Disobedience Program. Essentially, they claim that housing is a “right” that everyone deserves no matter how much of a bum they are or whether or not they pay their mortgage.

Now, the consequences of promoting illegal activity have caught up to one ACORN nutjob.

Police in Baltimore today made what is believed to be the first arrest in a civil disobedience program aimed at supporting homeowners who refuse to vacate their foreclosed homes.

An activist with ACORN — the Association of Community Organization for Reform Now — faces criminal charges after breaking into a home in southeast Baltimore on Thursday to protest the foreclosure crisis sweeping the country.

“This is our house now,” ACORN member Louis Beverly reportedly said after cutting a lock with bolt cutters at the home.

Beverly will be charged with fourth-degree burglary, according to Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesman for the Baltimore Police. Attempts to reach his attorney, Justin Brown, were not immediately successful.

Keep up the ‘civil disobedience’ idiots. Pretty soon we’ll have all of you locked up.

AP: Democratic Party Imploding on Ethics Issues

February 19th, 2009 · No Comments

You know it’s getting bad when the liberal media points it out. It’s going to be a fun time to sit back and watch the party gnaw itself to death from the inside out.

WASHINGTON – The Obama administration and the new Congress are rapidly giving Republicans the same “culture of corruption” issue that Democrats used so effectively against the GOP before coming to power.

Democrats’ ethical issues are popping up at a dizzying pace, after less than two months of party control of both the White House and Congress. Freshman Sen. Roland Burris, D-Ill. is only the latest embarrassment.

What are the other embarrassments, you ask? The Associated Press helpfully gathered them up:

The political mess for the Democratic Party, however, isn’t Burris’ conduct alone; it’s the pattern that has developed so quickly over the past few months.

_The chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., is the subject of a House ethics investigation. It’s partly focused on his fundraising practices for a college center in his name, his ownership financing of a resort property in the Dominican Republic and his financial disclosure reports.

_Federal agents raided two Pennsylvania defense contractors that were given millions of dollars in federal funding by Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., chairman of the House Appropriations defense subcommittee.

_Blagojevich was arrested Dec. 9 on federal charges, including allegations that he schemed to sell the Senate seat to the highest bidder.

_Tom Daschle, the former Senate majority leader from South Dakota, abandoned his bid to become health and human services secretary and the administration’s point man on reforming health care; and Nancy Killefer stepped down from a newly created position charged with eliminating inefficient government programs.

Both Daschle and Killefer had tax problems, and Daschle also faced potential conflicts of interest related to working with health care interests.

_Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner was confirmed to his post after revealing he had tax troubles.

_Obama’s initial choice for commerce secretary, Bill Richardson, stepped aside due to a grand jury investigation into a state contract awarded to his political donors.

_While the Senate voted overwhelmingly to confirm William Lynn as deputy defense secretary, Obama had to waive his ethics regulations to place the former defense lobbyist in charge of day-to-day operations at the Pentagon.

“They’re dying.”

“Let them die!”

Illinois Rep. Proposes Ridiculous Firearms Insurance - HB0687

February 19th, 2009 · 3 Comments

Illinois apparently didn’t want to get outdone by the grossly unconstitutional H.R. 45 bill proposed in the U.S. House, and thus Rep. Kenneth Dunkin (D) has brought this grotesque piece of garbage into existence.

Amends the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act. Provides that any person who owns a firearm in this State shall maintain a policy of liability insurance in the amount of at least $1,000,000 specifically covering any damages resulting from negligent or willful acts involving the use of such firearm while it is owned by such person. Provides that a person shall be deemed the owner of a firearm after the firearm is lost or stolen until such loss or theft is reported to the police department or sheriff of the jurisdiction in which the owner resides. Provides that the Department of State Police shall revoke and seize a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card previously issued under this Act if the Department finds that the person to whom such card was issued possesses or acquires a firearm and does not submit evidence to the Department of State Police that he or she has been issued in his or her name a liability insurance policy in the amount of at least $1,000,000 specifically covering any damages resulting from negligent or willful acts involving the use of such firearm while it is owned by such person. Effective January 1, 2010.

What does this mean? Basically, right now in Illinois we have to have a Firearm Owner’s Identification card that “allows” us the right to exercise our 2nd Amendment rights. It’s quite nice of Illinois to allow us this privilege. Anyway.

This bill would require Illinois residents to own a million dollars of insurance on their guns, or get their FOID revoked. What is left unsaid is that if your FOID is revoked and you are in possession of a weapon, it’s a felony.

If the Democrats can’t take our guns by force, they will take our guns by proxy. This bill would make it so unbelievably expensive to own a gun that many gun owners would not be able to purchase the policy and would lose their “right” to own a weapon in Illinois. Of course, Illinois has no right to take the rights afforded to us by the 2nd Amendment, but why let a silly 200 year old document get in the way of progress?

AZ Rancher, Sued by Illegals, Found Liable for Assault

February 18th, 2009 · 2 Comments

Are you KIDDING ME???

I first reported on this situation last week. The gist of it is an Arizona rancher who captures and detains illegals crossing his property was being sued by a group of said illegals who said he violated their non-existent rights.

Now, since apparently we’re living in communist Russia or maybe socialist France, some jury of activist morons has found him guilty and ordered him to pay CRIMINALS more than $70,000.

A U.S. federal jury awarded more than $70,000 in damages to a group of illegal immigrants who claimed they were held at gunpoint by an Arizona rancher after slipping over the border from Mexico five years ago.

The civil jury at the U.S. District Court in Tucson, Arizona, found Roger Barnett liable for assault and intentionally inflicting emotional distress in the incident in March 2004. It ordered him to pay four women $73,352 in damages, attorneys for the plaintiffs said.

The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, which backed the suit, said the group of Mexican nationals was resting in a dry streambed in Douglas, Arizona, when they were approached by Barnett, who was armed with a gun and accompanied by a large dog.

“Intentionally inflicting emotional distress?” So let me get this straight; you willfully and knowingly violate the sovereignty of the United States, trespass on this man’s land, litter on his property, remain unapologetic for all of the above, and then have the audacity to sue him for INTENTIONALLY INFLICTING EMOTIONAL DISTRESS? These illegals should be lucky he didn’t intentionally inflict PHYSICAL distress. My God. What is happening to our country.

Your blood boiling yet? Just wait. This gets worse (as if a citizen being told to pay criminals who spit in the face of his property and civil rights isn’t bad enough, right?)

David Hardy, an attorney representing Barnett, said his client was found not liable on claims of battery, false imprisonment and violation of civil rights, and planned to appeal.

The trial highlighted the issue of vigilante violence in southern Arizona, which is a major thoroughfare for illegal immigrants and the place where several civilian border patrols have operated in recent years.

Oh, well golly gee, I guess we should be happy that he didn’t get nailed with battery, false imprisonment and violation of (non-existent) civil rights too, eh? This is just sick. This should set a record for quickest appeal in history; whatever judge allowed this verdict needs to be yanked from the bench and tossed into the Rio Grande.

There’s some good news bias for you: “vigilante violence.” How about “vigilante justice?” I think people are starting to forget that WE are the good guys and the illegals are the bad guys.

White House: Obama Against Resurrection of Fairness Doctrine

February 18th, 2009 · 2 Comments

This is actually pretty stunning. Obama must realize that the doctrine would do nothing but draw ire from everyone except the far left and he doesn’t want to commit political suicide (again, that is…he’s already tied his political future to the ill-fated porkulus bill).

President Obama opposes any move to bring back the so-called Fairness Doctrine, a spokesman told FOXNews.com Wednesday.

The statement is the first definitive stance the administration has taken since an aide told an industry publication last summer that Obama opposes the doctrine — a long-abolished policy that would require broadcasters to provide opposing viewpoints on controversial issues.

“As the president stated during the campaign, he does not believe the Fairness Doctrine should be reinstated,” White House spokesman Ben LaBolt told FOXNews.com.

Good news for us, bad news for Pelosi and Reid. I have this distinct feeling that Congress and the White House are headed for a number of high-profile head-butting sessions when the Speakers realize that Obama has his own idea of how to implement socialism.

See, both Obama and Pelosi want the country in the same place: the government owns everything, the Constitution is repealed and the word “profit” is not allowed to be spoken.

Fortunately for us, they disagree on how to get there, and they’ll tear each other to shreds before they sit and realize they are on the same side.
