A Sad Day in the Fast Food Industry

May 23rd, 2008 · No Comments

The last frontier of trans-fat, McDonalds fries, have now become trans-fat free.

McDonald’s french fries are now trans-fat-free in all its restaurants in the United States and Canada, the fast-food restaurant chain said Thursday.

McDonald’s has lagged other restaurant operators in switching over to a zero-trans-fat cooking oil out of worries it would compromise the taste of its trademark fries. It has been under increasing pressure from consumer advocates and some public officials to make the change.

The new oil is canola-based and includes corn and soy oils.

I don’t want to eat canola oil and soy oil when I order McDonalds fries. The point of fast food fries is that they are NOT healthy! You don’t go to a fast food restaurant looking for healthy foods. You go there to get greasy, artery-clogging delights like the Big Mac and the Whopper.

McDonalds was the last one standing against the anti-trans-fat nannies, and now they have fallen. The end of days is upon us. Our society has grown so pathetic that now we are not even trusted to eat the correct foods, and we have to be artificially forced to consume foods that are “good for us.”

I’m sorry, but those of us who CAN eat bad foods and get away with it easily (fast metabolism, yeah) should be allowed to. I’m so sick of this nanny-style government and industry taking over everything in our lives. How about a little personal freedom? Yes? Maybe?

And So it Begins…

May 23rd, 2008 · No Comments

The Senate today passed a bloated, pork filled spending bill by a veto-proof 75-22 margin. The Republicans are getting stage fright and are breaking ranks in a pathetic attempt to save their worthless seats. We’re going to be seeing a lot more of this leading up to the election this fall, especially with the Obamessiah atop the ticket turning out hordes of ignorant (but newly registered!) voters.

WASHINGTON - In a stunning vote that illustrated President Bush’s diminished standing, the Senate on Thursday ignored his veto threat and added tens of billions of dollars for veterans and the unemployed to his Iraq war spending bill.

A majority of Republicans broke ranks with Bush on a veto-proof 75-22 vote while adding more than $10 billion for various other domestic programs, including heating subsidies for the poor, wildfire fighting, road and bridge repair, and health research.

Our party has forgotten where it came from and who elected them. We may as well just lose those seats in November and get Democrats in there, because half the sitting senators are voting with the Dems anyway. At least then we’d know what we’re getting, instead of a bunch of wimpy RINOs who duck and cover as soon as the going gets tough.

It’s no fun when we have Republicans who campaign under one flag and then cower like hurt puppies when the vote is actually called. Our party is losing this election one vote at at time, and they have no one to blame but themselves.

Capitalism: The Black Sheep of the 2008 Campaign

May 22nd, 2008 · 1 Comment

McShamnesty joins Hillary and The Obamessiah in their hatred of free enterprise.

“Um, I don’t like obscene profits being made anywhere, and I’d be glad to look not just at the windfall profits tax that’s not what bothers me, but we should look at any incentives that we are giving to people or industries or corporations that are distorting the market.”

So when it comes to capitalism and free enterprise, our choice for president now comes down to bad, worse and “oh God we’re the USSR.”

Clinton says Free Market is a No-Go

May 16th, 2008 · 5 Comments

Hillary Clinton, never the type to realize when she has stuck her foot in her mouth, last month trashed the free market economy and extolled a number of seriously communistic and socialistic principles.

The nation’s free-market doctrine is ill-suited for today’s global market, Sen. Hillary Clinton emphasized in an interview with USA Today.

The New York Democrat told the national daily that if elected president, she will aggressively use federal tax and regulatory policy to promote key sectors of the U.S. economy.

She proposed stripping tax benefits from sectors such as the oil industry and using government policies to boost industries such as automakers, wind turbine producers and steel companies, the paper said.

I’m sure she’s just suggesting it because of all the socialism and communism success stories that exist in the world.

The key fact is that the Communist countries did fail, and they failed in several different ways:

The overall statistics conceal the fact that some kinds of production were very unsuccessful. For example, agriculture in the Soviet-type countries clearly failed, and failed because of the collective and state farms and nonmarket systems the government imposed on the farmers. Ironically, it is agriculture that has remained least affected by the so-called market reforms of the 1990’s, and agriculture is still dismally unsuccessful in the post-Soviet countries. (The Chinese People’s Republic, more wisely, began its market reforms by turning agriculture over to the farmers, and this smart move gave them the boom they have enjoyed in the generation since.) Similarly, the collapse of human services, such as health and child welfare, in the Soviet republics and Romania is notorious.
They failed as planned economies. As we have seen, the Communist countries never really tried to put an optimal plan into effect. In addition, neoclassical economics tells us that there are some problems that a planned economy could do better with than a market economy. These are problems based on externalities — which includes environmental problems. But the Soviet-Type economies did even worse on these problems than the market economies did.

What amazes me about her “free market bad” and “lots of money bad” speech is that SHE has a ton of money that I’m sure she wouldn’t want to part with. If you like socialism so much, how about you give away all your money to the poor?

What? Oh, you want to keep the money that you earned? What a crazy thought! It’s called capitalism.

McCain Visualizes His First Four Years As President

May 15th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Pretty presumptive for someone who has alienated half his party, but McCain, never lacking in confidence, has a whole plan laid out for how he wants his first four years to go down.

Let’s see what the RINO sees in his future.

“spasmodic” but reduced violence in Iraq and Afghanistan

I can agree with that; he’s been the biggest backer of the surge outside of Bush himself, and it certainly has paid dividends.

Osama bin Laden dead or captured

Unlikely; he’ll probably die of old age or a camel-related incident before we find him, because Pakistan won’t let us into their mountains.

government spending curbed by his ready veto pen

I’ll believe it when I see it, but I really hope it’s true. The other half of the equation is to make sure the Dems don’t get a 2/3 majority in November, or we are in real trouble.

The Republican presidential contender also envisions April’s annual angst replaced by a simpler flat tax

Paging Mike Huckabee…paging Mike Huckabee…Huckabee party, your vice-president seat is ready.

illegal immigrants living humanely under a temporary worker program

Ah, there it is. I knew the Mac Attack couldn’t get through a list of policies without throwing his Conquistador-esque shamnesty views out there. Build the wall, idiot.

partisanship stemmed by weekly news conferences and British-style question periods with joint meetings of Congress

News conferences: good. Joint meetings of Congress with Q & A: why not. Partisanship stemmed: bad. There’s a reason we have two parties; we need a place to contain the wackos, not work with them.

NC Colleges: ‘No Mas Illegals’

May 14th, 2008 · No Comments

RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina’s community colleges will no longer admit illegal immigrants, returning to more restrictive policy on the advice of the state Attorney General’s Office.

Last year, the system said it would enroll illegal immigrants who are 18 years old and high school graduates at all of its 58 campuses. The policy provoked heavy criticism, especially from the leading candidates for governor.

The system later asked North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper for guidance on whether the admissions policy was legal under federal law. Last week, Cooper’s office suggested the system drop the admissions policy.

On Tuesday, the community colleges said it would follow the advice from Cooper’s office.

Excellent.

Shrillary Wins WV, Says Race is ‘Not Over’

May 13th, 2008 · No Comments

We know from the Bible that faith can move mountains. Well, the faith of the mountain state has moved me.

Gag.

She also stumped for seating “all the delegates” from Michigan and Florida…again.

Neither of us have reached the threshold yet.

She is going to go until the last delegate is pledged. Excellent.

What is interesting is that according to the exit polls, Obama got crushed in every group…even the demographics he usually carries by a wide margin. Did they not go out to vote? Did they not care? Is the shine wearing off the Obamessiah? Are the Democrats just flat-out worn out of the bickering? Hopefully, it is all of the above.

This is just getting better and better. Howard Dean should start practicing his wahooo yell, cause he may need it. It’s that bad for the Democratic Party.

Of course, my party didn’t do much better by having the media elect a Shamnesty nut as our nominee.

Former Rep. Barr Looks for Libertarian Nomination

May 12th, 2008 · No Comments

Former Republican Rep. Bob Barr announced Monday that he’s running for president as a Libertarian.

His candidacy could be a wild card in the White House race that many believe would hurt Republican Sen. John McCain.

The former Georgia Republican congressman said that having spent several weeks roaming the U.S. and abroad and talking to people from all walks of life, he has heard the same complaints.

“They want a choice. They believe America has more to offer than what current political situation is serving to us,” he said.

Barr said “protecting the defense and defending the United States” is a first priority, and that would include not leaving open military bases abroad that serve no advantage. He added that bringing discretionary spending under control, limiting the size and scope of the federal government and reducing the deficit are also among his objectives.

Barr, unlike McCain, is pretty much a hardcore conservative. Meaning that all the angry right-wingers (like me) who can’t stand McCain and his shamnesty policies will be sorely tempted to vote for Barr, even if he has some of his own issues.

Hello, 1992.

What is ironic is that if Obama wins, we are all going to need guns to fight Al Qaeda once he lets them get over here, but before that, he’ll probably sign some ridiculously restrictive gun law that prevents us from keeping our guns and ammunition within 1000 yards of each other.

E85 = -(-greenhouse emissions)

May 9th, 2008 · No Comments

The green crowd wants you to believe that our fossil fuels are destroying the Earth, and the only answer is renewable, “clean” bio-fuels. According to a group of Minnesota scientists, bio-fuels may actually lead to MORE greenhouse emissions.

The study, published Thursday in the online version of the journal Science, was funded by the National Science Foundation and the University of Minnesota. Another study published Thursday in Science, with estimates from economists at Iowa State University, concluded that corn-based ethanol could double greenhouse gas emissions, rather than reducing them, during the next 30 years because of the dramatic changes in land use.

The reason for scientists’ concern, said Tilman, is that soil and plants hold three times more carbon than air. Clearing trees to grow more corn or bulldozing tropical forests to grow more sugarcane emits large amounts of carbon dioxide, either quickly through the burning of the wood, or more gradually through the decomposition of carbon stored in plants and soil.

Tilman calculated that converting natural ecosystems to raise corn or sugarcane for ethanol, or soybeans or palms for biodiesel, will release 17 to 420 times more carbon than the annual savings from replacing fossil fuels. The Minnesota study estimated that in the United States, it will take 93 years for the carbon losses from plowing one acre of healthy grassland to equal the carbon savings from corn-based ethanol produced on that land.

The rest of the article is equally interesting. The obsessive “green” alarmists are going to be the end of us. They won’t be happy until they guilt trip us back to 15th. century technology.

Well, that is if the terrorists and illegal immigrants don’t get us first.
